My Favorite Salsa Recipe

There is almost nothing I love more than chips and fresh salsa. You would be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of this gift from the gods. I’ve been trying for years to find a recipe that could compare to the heavenly flavor of some of my favorite Mexican restaurant salsas. You guys, THIS! Well, this recipe is pretty darn close.

I start with a can of whole tomatoes, 2 cans of Rotel, cilantro, onion, garlic, jalapeño, fresh-squeezed lime juice, salt (I used pink Himalayan sea salt, but any salt will do), sugar, and cumin. You can scroll down to the bottom of this post for my exact measurements, but feel free to play around with the ingredients until you find your perfect flavor.

Mix all the ingredients together in a blender or food processor. I only have an immersion blender, but it works just fine to give me that perfect restaurant style consistency.

Let your salsa chill before serving, and that’s it! Now, I strongly believe that your salsa is only as good as the chips you serve it with. I’m partial to Safeway’s fresh made chips, but any bagged cantina style chips work just fine if I ever find myself shopping anywhere else.


1 28oz can fire roasted whole tomatoes (regular work as well, but fire roasted…mmm!)
2 cans Rotel
1 bunch of cilantro
1/2 of an onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 jalapeño, sliced
1 lime, juiced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon cumin

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor until mixed to desired consistency. Refrigerate before serving. I’ve found that the longer you let the salsa chill, the better it tastes!
